The Mare-Makbye Diva
The nation stopped as The Diva crossed the finish line in firstplace for the third consecutive Melbourne Cup victory. In the 144 year history of The Cup it has never been won THREE TIMES! Diva is the second horse to ever to attempt it.
The most amazing thing is that Diva is a 7 yr. old. Most race horses are have finished their race careers by the age of 4 yrs. The mare got better with age. She is being compared to the 1930's great race horse Pharlap. However Pharlaps Melbourne Cup victories didn't really compare to the Diva's.
I am not that fond of Thoughbreds however it was appearent that this was a mare with a heart. She gave me goosebumps watching her run. Pure quality.
Diva's owner, G. Boss (masked man in previous picture) is a story in himself. His story began with a lucky day at a casino. He walked out with $200,000. on that day. He bought up a tuna boat , later another, then another. He soon had a sucessful fleet. G. Boss purchased a race horse prospect being the gambler that he is. The employees in his company office bought into his race horse as investors. MAKBYE is the initials of each of the six ladies who work in his company office. The rest is now history. The stuff fairy tails are made of. Glen Boss (Diva's owner) retired her to stud after the third win at the Melbourne Cup. What an incredible day at the races. What an incredible day in racing history.
