Fairy Bread- the stuff dreams are made of.
This fairy bread has become more of a Aussie icon then the roo in our house. Simple to make. Lovely to look at. Makes every kid smile. An Aussie birthday party wouldn't be the same without it. So what is the special receipe? I have listed it below. I couldn't imagine my kids would eat it. They LOVE IT!
A slice of gushy white bread
Butter
Sprinkles (colored)
Butter bread, sprinkle.
Truth be know..we never had this before moving here.

now that is something I will have to share with the grandkids,
Aussie kids birthdays
Must have Fairy bread triangles, party pies Tomatoe sauce and little boys (cocktail franks)my 3 grandchildren just gone home after spending a week with me fairy bread was on the lunch menu everyday
What a fun idea. I'll have to try it the next time we've got a sick kiddo around here. Looks like the perfect accompaniment to P. B. Bear books :)
Thing is, my girls will want that without the butter. I'll have to try to keep them away from your blog for a bit!
Maybe we can make it up with Jam or Ketchup and call it Kiwi bread?
I must admit that I too found this a totally alien concept when I came here, so when my sons came along, they just did not get exposed to it. They did manage to find out about vegemite though, and eat it quite happily.
I remember it from my own birthdays with triangles, little frankfurts; it all seemed like manna from heaven!!
Best wishes
Hi Wendy, I didn't know that fairy bread was so regional. Next time I blog about regional food I might do kid's party food - I wonder if "little boys" are a world wide phenomena?
PS Love Rockman
For a treat when she was a kid, my mom had bread, butter and sugar sprinkled on. This is an Aussie item I have yet to try but if I was dying for something sweet I would give it a go.
