First Stop..California
After a 28 hours of travel time (16 hours airtime) The kids were ready to head for the beach. Southern California at the beach is now the land of mega/ supersized houses, far from the beachy feel it had when I grew up as a kid. I still perfer the little shingle sided houses that occasionally dot the strand between the two piers of Hermosa and Manhattan Beaches. Here are only a fracton of some of the pictures.

All of these photos are just great, Wendy. I notice that these house all have lots of chimneys. Do they have wood fires over there? They can't just be for decoration, surely? Interesting houses, so different to most of ours. I actually like the solidness of them; I think they look better than the highrises on the Gold Coast.
Looking forward to seeing more of your photos.
I love all you pictures. Can't wait until you buy that digital SLR. I will send those pictures soon. I'm not really happy with them though.
Alice, Very few houses here (none that I know of) use fire places or wood stoves for heat. The chimnys are for fire places that are used on occasions for atmosphere only. My Parents house has three fire places, all are gas. I have only seen them use them at Christmas. One of these houses pictured here would cost 10-15 million USD. This is LA's prime real estate.
It's sad when they build houses so close to the beach and spoil the lovely natural surroundings. Fancy paying 10 to 15 million to live in one of those houses. I wouldn't want to live there for peanuts! I love the birds and the sand though. Looks like the kids did too.
