The Taste Of Huon

South West of Huonville, at the foot of Hartz National Park is the tiny forestry town of Geeveston. It's a pretty sleepy town during most of the year. The town sees a few tourists passing throught to Hartz Nat. Park in the warm months but other then that it remains mostly resident foresty workers and farmers.

Two days out of the year Geeveston has traffic. Real traffic! The Taste of Huon brings in people from all over Tasmania. Similar to The Taste of Tasmania, food, wine, more food, and more wine take center stage. Street performers and music add to the entertainment. Our kids enjoyed the Bounce-O-Ramas, face painting, carriage ride but the food........... Posted by Picasa

It looks like a fun time.

The Huon Valley seems to have a lot of produce on offer. Its famous for its splendid apples with over 500 varieties amd timbers.

The Huon pine from the Huon Valley is one of the slowest-growing and longest living plants on planet earth, reaching an age of 3000 years or more.

Only the bristle-cone pine of North America lives longer.

The Huon pine (lagarostrobos frankldinii) may attain heights over 40 metres and one stand (a number of genetically identical trees) is 10,000 years old.

best wishes

Lindsey-the valley road is dotted with road side apple stands where you can get the most amazing bag of apples for $2.00. I am hoping to buy a peice of furniture made of huon pine.It certainly is beautiful. Thanks for the added information

Wonderful pics! Thanks for sharing this day. It looks like so much fun and very interesting. Love the painted face :)
I would NEVER pick up that spider like your little guy did in that pic further down! How can boys be so unafraid of creepy crawlies? What a treat to bring to mum :)
