The East Coast of Tasmania

We traveled up the East Coast of Tasmania to The Bay of Fires. The entire three hour drive from Hobart along the narrow, windy road tours along the coast dotted with vinyards, golden fields, endless farm land, and more beaches then one can count. The drive alone was just as lovely as The Bay Of Fires.

We stayed in a small town called Bicheno. We visited St. Helens, another coastal town that is the jumping off spot for The Bay of Fire. We stopped at just about every Bakery in every town for Mince pies. My kids are now addicted to them. I kinda like them myself but wish they were low fat.

I took so many pictures that I just can't post them all so I will post over the next few day. I found it very hard to pass up the many photo opts along the way. I apologise in advance for anyone who is getting tired of looking at my Beautiful Beach photos. Posted by Picasa

I'll never tire of your beautiful beach photos, or your photos of Tasmania. I've been to Bicheno and stayed at St Helens but I hadn't heard of the Bay of Fire. Which way did you go back to Hobart?

I am so enjoying the pictures! Since I can't go in person I can at least see everything through your eyes!

It is all stunning. Are you sure we need to travel to the Great Barrier Reef? It looks so beautiful there.

We plan to take a slight break from the beach next weekend and camp in a Kauri forest.

Alice- We took the coast all the way to and from Bicheno. To the Bay of Fire you take the sign to The Gardens just before Binalong Bay. Follow it to the end (12 Km. approx).

Peggy- I am glad your enjoying the pics. It is truly an amazing place.

Kathleen-I want to see it all. The Kauri forest sounds so exotic. Are you tenting it?

Yes, we plan to excavate the tents out of the garage and see if the air mattresses hold air. However, not going too rough: the campsite includes a communal kitchen with electric ranges and a refrigerator and toilets and hot showers are also available.

That sounds pretty reasonable. I'll hope for good weather for you and remember all our great camping trips of the past. Sigh...

Hi Wendy

The photos are great. And nice to see you exploring and enjoying yourself. What a couple of cuties are your children!!

I remember the coloured rock of the east coast.

What do you think of the local crayfish. Did you sample some Lobster with hubby sipping on the best of a “Boags” Brew,” And does your Hubby catch many fish ?

I expect you will plan a visit Cradle Mountain.

Best wishes.

Linsey-My hubby does better catching fish off dock. He just started the surf fishing and really needs a poper surf rod. Crays& Brogs can be compared to Campagne and caviar. Even better if being eaten surfside. Yes on The Cradle Mountain Adventure. Can't Wait!!!

Donna-Where did your Brother-Law Stay?

Hi Wendy,
Not sure where my brother camped, somewhere in Bicheno. They live at Bridgewater. My Dad lives at Mornington. We grew up in the little midlands town of Bothwell. It's worth a visit if you like historic buildings.

Donna,

Tell your Dad to visit The Salmon Shop at the Tassal pocessing plant in Mornington. Best deal around on salmon. (I do know my salmon). He might already know of it.

I have been to Brothwell. There was a quaint little park there and a gooooood bakery. It adorable little town. Beautiful building! Don't they boast the oldest golf course in Aust? I think I even have some pics of Brothwell somewhere in my photo files.
